A Senior's Guide to Wildflowers - When to book for each type of flower!

Wildflowers are one of the most requested locations from my seniors. The thing about wildflowers is that they’re constantly changing. Different types of flowers are in bloom during different seasons or parts of the year, so If wildflowers of any kind are on your radar for your senior pictures, then this post is a must read!

Read on to learn when each type of flower is in bloom so you know when to book your senior pictures!

Spring blooms typically start in late April and last through early May. You can expect to see white and purple blooms on the trees, and lots of yellow blooming bushes. The amount of rain and sunshine we get affects the exact peak bloom, but if spring blooms are on your list, this is the timeframe you’ll want to aim for!

I’m also willing to be more flexible with your session date in this time frame to make sure we get the best blooms!

June is when I see the most variety in colorful flowers. I usually see these pop up in early June and last until it starts to get too hot. In June, see a lot of the little white daisies, along with a variety of yellow, purple, and red wildflowers.

It’s usually so hot in July and August that you don’t see a lot of wild flowers. If we get a lot of rain, there are sometimes still a few fields left, but its definitely weather depending.

As the month goes on, the ditches will often have some yellow coneflowers.

Towards the end of July is when the Giant Sunflowers are in full bloom. They only last a couple of weeks, so if these giant golden beauties are on your must have list, you need to book your session the third week of July. Know that it will likely be really hot out, but I promise it will be worth it!

Another way to get colorful flowers in July and August is to hit up the local flower shops like Earl May or Sunken Gardens!

Towards the middle to end of September is when we’ll start to see fields full of goldenrod, buttercups and smaller sunflowers pop up. So if you want a warm cozy fall feel along with wildflowers, late September and early October (weather depending) will be when you want to book your senior pictures! Sunken Gardens also still has some beautiful flowers in September.

Ready for a one of a kind senior experience? One that genuinely reflects YOU? Let’s work together! I can’t wait to meet you <3
